Hello reader,
In place of my Top Tip this month, I do have some other big news for you!
Firstly, my plans to provide a regular and affordable INDOOR Sketch Club during the autumn and winter months have come to fruition. If you're interested, please express this by joining my waiting list. No obligation - I just need to see a response…
Secondly, I am delighted to announce that all of my students (past, present and future), are now entitled to a super 10% discount at a local fine arts supplies store!
And finally, let's not hurry this fair weather away - we still have two outdoor sketching workshops available to book. Read on for full details…

Kind regards, Shaun :-)

Indoor sketching this autumn and winter

Sketch Club: For everyone's comfort, I have arranged to take my autumn and winter sketching workshops INDOORS - and have therefore formed 'Sketch Club'!
I am delighted to announce that I have arranged this with the Kings Head Hotel in Wimborne Square. This is a super venue with a secluded, yet public space dedicated to us, and also within easy reach of the bar! Plus, as patrons, we will benefit from the hotel's own car park. For those coming by bus, there are bus stops adjacent. Furthermore, when we are lucky enough for fair weather, we can pop out into the square and surrounding areas to practice our skills.
The format Two hours, fortnightly on Tuesdays from 17th November to 23rd March, between 11:00am – 13:00pm, with an option to stay on for a social light-bite to eat and maybe to then put our sketching skills to the test for a short while in town (if dry!).
The cost will be just £20 per person per session and you can come once, or just now and again, or every single session - just as you wish. Sessions will be bookable via my website and limited to a maximum of circa 12 students per session.
Subject matter will vary by session and be somewhat dynamically governed by the needs of attendees, but I am anticipating a curriculum along these lines: demonstration and practice of many key drawing techniques, discovering how to simplify subjects, grasping perspective, sketching still life objects, the exploration of different media, life drawing of a clothed model (ie: one of us taking turns to model, no obligation), discussing and examining the styles of popular sketchers and attempting to emulate them! Plus other topics which might be driven by yourselves along the way…
More details can be found on my website here - BUT if you have not already done so, please do express your interest to me by joining the waiting list, with absolutely no obligation.
NB: Sketch Club can only happen if I have a reasonable number showing interest. Currently, I do have a number of verbal positives and a few "maybe's" - but I need quite a few more - as I know not everyone will attend every session.
By getting yourself on the waiting list you'll be among the first to be in a position to book when it goes live… Thank you.

Discounted art supplies for my students!

Exclusively for my students I am thrilled to have negotiated a 10% discount on art supplies at Overbury's Fine Arts Supplies in Westbourne Arcade, BH4 9AY.
If you have previously attended one of my sketching workshops and would like to benefit from this, please let me know and I will email your exclusive membership discount card.
New students will automatically receive their cards following each workshop. Simply show this card to Richard when making any purchase in his store. He will also gladly guide you on the choice of any art materials to suit your needs.
Incidentally, Richard is a fantastic coloured pencil artist himself and is usually creating something wonderful in his in-store studio - ask him about it, he'll be delighted to show you.
