Since 2022, I have devoted my creative life to painting, pen & ink drawing and Linocut printmaking. I am set up to paint from, and receive clients at, my well-lit garden studio in Bournemouth – but my first love is Urban Sketching, where I enjoy being outdoors, observing and capturing urban, coastal and rural subjects – from life. Having been disciplined to work in a very ’tight’ style during his professional years, I now enjoying throwing off these shackles and evolving a much looser and more impressionistic style with my fine art. Inspired by the likes of Jane Askey, Ann Cowan, Rob Pointon, Kalie Graves, David Atkins, John Piper and Paul Wang, I am very excited about the path I am now embarking upon… and am enjoying being invited to exhibit in professional galleries. Commissions willingly accepted.
Training: Studied technical illustration at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art between 1972 & 1977,
Qualifications: City & Guilds in Technical Illustration – ‘Part ll’ 1977 and ‘Part l’ with Credit 1974.
Career: A lifetime career working as staff and also freelance for the south coast’s top design groups and advertising agencies. With fond memories of playing a key part on many national award-winning design campaigns, I am now quite content to leave all that behind and concentrate on the simpler life ahead.
Now: Having retired from a life-long career in design & marketing, I now find more time to devote to plein air painting and other fine art disciplines; painting, urban sketching, printmaking, photography, upholstery and ceramics. Outdoor Sketchbooking: This has become my pecialism! I am passionate about all kinds of sketchbooks, media, locations and the enjoyment gained from recording everyday scenes in its contemporary glory. ‘Outdoor Sketchbooking Workshops‘ are now available for those interested in becoming a part of this affordable and portable art form.
