Join Dorset urban sketcher, Shaun Forward, for some relaxed sketching sessions INDOORS this autumn and winter. These cosy two-hour sessions will take place at a comfortable indoor venue, with occasional outdoor sketching – if and when weather permits.
Why go indoors?
As my regular outdoor workshops were not so well attended during the autumn and winter months, last year – I have devised these new indoor sessions to satisfy the many arty types wanting to sketch, but understandably not get wet and cold!
The venue:
The actual venue is yet to be decided. As of 21st August 2026, I have three shortlisted:
1) the Kings Head and
2) the Museum of East Dorset, both in Wimborne, and
3) the Libertine in Westbourne.
I will update the choice, once determined.
The format:
Sessions will probably be two hours, between 11.00am and 1.00pm – mid-week, once per fortnight, with an option to stay on for a social light-bite to eat and maybe to then put our sketching skills to the test for a short while in town (if dry!). Indoor sketching sessions will run between November 2026 and March 2027.
The cost will be £20 per person and you can come just once, or every session, or just now and again – as you wish. Sessions will be bookable via my website and limited to a maximum of 12 students.
The fortnightly sessions will be available to book via my website and you can book just one, or a block or all sessions – as you wish. ‘Book as you go’ is perfectly fine and I just hope to have a reasonable number present at each session.
Subject matter:
This will vary by session and be somewhat governed by the needs of attendees, but I am anticipating: demonstration and practice of key drawing techniques, the exploration of different media, drawing still life set ups, life drawing of a clothed model (one of us taking turns to model), discussing and examining the styles of liked sketchers and emulating them! Plus whatever else gets thrown up by yourselves, along the way…
