Hello reader,

My first SketchJAM hit Wimborne earlier this week!

This first SketchJAM was a FREE sketching event open to all sketchy, arty, painty types - and it took place in Wimborne town centre on Tuesday 10th February. Read the article on my website here.
SketchJAM is not a coaching workshop - (although I was happy to offer minimal coaching to a few of my previous students) - it's simply an opportunity for artists of all levels to come together and enjoy a day of sketching with like-minded people in various locations, and to chat and enjoy coffees or a light lunch together. On this occasion, I had reserved the Snug bar of Piazzo Lounge for us to make use of throughout the day.
SketchJAM is a great opportunity to gain inspiration from each other and to feed our creative souls.
Even though it was a very wet day during the longest and wettest period since records began, we had a great turnout and everyone really enjoyed the sketching and socialising.
I think I'll run these more often! Do let me know if you're interested.

My Top Tip of the month:

Take a concertina sketchbook on your travels

I can't get enough of these 38 page concertina sketchbooks. They are such fun to use and because of the speed in which I found I must work, they have loosened up my style so much. They are also a brilliant way to record your travels.

I urge you to try one out - the 'Seawhite of Brighton' brand I use is available from their store, or at such places as HobbyCraft, for well under £10. It's a very flexible format, as you can choose how many pages to open up and dedicate to any given sketch. It even comes with a rigid slip case for storage.
I arrange my sketchbook to reveal how many pages I want to work on, and clip it to a small drawing board. Then - armed with nothing more than my small tin of 'go to' pens, brushes and pencils - and my travel watercolour tin - I set off on my travels to sketch what I see. It might be a walk around a town centre, or a holiday, whereas the one pictured below was created on a recent sketch tour of South Wales in my campervan. In those six days I captured 23 sketches over 500 miles, across four counties and all in 1 sketchbook. You can see a very swift video of the sketchbook here as well as all the daily videos I posted during the week.
Try one out - take it on holiday and use it constantly - you will find it a fantastic memory of your trip. Soooooooo much better than snaps on your phone…

Two great Workshops open for booking…

Firstly, I am excited about kicking off the first of these two workshops at the Botanist Bournemouth where we will focus on sketching the town's skyline from the rooftop café at Bobby's in the Square - and then move on to sketch the iconic buildings around the town.
The second of these currently available workshops, is the ever popular Pamphill Sketch Walk Workshop. My student's absolutely LOVED this location near Wimborne last year. The quaint village church was opened especially for us and the pretty cottages and farm-worker's building are just begging to be sketched!
For more details and to book your place, please click either image below, to go through to the workshop pages on my website.
Also, my One-to-One Coaching sessions are very popular, these can be booked as either half-day or full-day sessions, at a mutually suitable time and location.
