Hello reader,
I've had the pleasure of sketching with many of you more-hardy folks, throughout the autumn and winter - and isn't it lovely to feel Spring well and truly here - the perfect time to dust-down your kit and get sketching outdoors! This month's Top Tip is a timely one… and don't miss the opportunity to get involved with my new Urban Sketching Club - see final article.

This month's Top Tip

Turbo-charging your watercolour palette. This Top Tip is relevant for both new and old tin palettes. By cleaning the mixing well sections using a slightly abrasive kitchen cleaning cream with a soft scouring pad - the waxy, shinny surface is dulled a little and allows your paint mixes to become voluminous - rather than pooling into squitty little droplets.
See the 'before & after' images above. Rinse the palette thorough afterwards and admire the results. You can also use a fine sandpaper or emery board, but don't rub too hard.

Upcoming workshop

Shaun Forward Urban Sketching Workshop venue and date
On Tuesday 19th May, my Urban Sketch Walk Workshop will once again be based at the wonderful Forge, within the Libertine at Westbourne, BH4 8EL. The spacious Forge will be our home for the day, offering scope for a comfortable learning environment as well a convenient place to leave our belongings when stepping out to sketch the shops, streets and victorian arcade.
Booking open! Click here for details and option to book. As usual, this will be a small, friendly group with basic materials supplied and full coaching, suitable for all abilities.

Fancy an Urban Sketching Club…?

shaun forward delivering urban sketching workshop session to the Reasons for Art group in Wimborne
Urban Sketching Club could be for YOU! I've received a number of enquiries from folks who are interested in an ongoing, weekly workshop. Much like subscribing to a local art club which meets on a regular basis, in a given location and works their way through a seasonal itinerary of topics. A friendly group with continual coaching and mutual support.
I will therefore endeavour to put something suitable together. If YOU are interested in something of this sort, please do let me know so I can formulate the most desirable format.

What I'd like to know! Which of the following aspects suit most people.
For example: Daytime? Evenings? Which Weekdays? or Weekends? Two hours? 3 hours? Whereabouts are you located (district)?
