I had the honour today, of handing over another commissioned painting. This time to a local lady who has lived in her Wimborne home for in excess of forty years.
The house is a very well built and substantial property, featuring interesting brickwork and an imposing stained glass window. My client was keen to have her house portrayed in the springtime, when the cherry blossoms and magnolias would be at their best.
“We are extremely pleased with the painting, Shaun has captured the atmosphere and essence of the house perfectly. The detail is extraordinary.”
Mrs. B. Wimborne
When on a site visit in mid April, to determine the perfect viewpoint, it became apparent that it would be quite difficult to achieve one where all key features could be seen and included – and also, to be kept within a pleasing format. So, working from a set of photographs taken on that site visit, I used a degree of artists’ licence to recompose a convincing scene including all the key features – within a pleasing aspect ratio. The basis of the painting is a detailed pen & ink drawing, with watercolour washes applied over. Mounted and framed in dark wood to match the intended hanging location, I embossed the 140lb Winsor & Newton watercolour paper with my own personal makers mark, to confirm its originality.
